PRACTICAL WANDERLUST

35

Norway was every bit the snowy wonderland I’d dreamt it would be. Snow fell softly on woodlands and meadows outside the windows of our train as we sped towards downtown Oslo...

During my trip, I jumped into Oslo's freezing fjords from a sauna...

Slept in a hotel made of ice...

Slept in a hotel made of ice...

Went dog sledding through the forest...

And herded reindeer in the Arctic tundra with an Indigenous Sami guide.

I learned that Oslo is the City of Tigers, so on occasion you’ll find yourself face to face with a giant, snow-covered cat.

And that in Oslo's harbor is a scuplture interpretation of a painting depicting a wrecked ship on a failed North Pole expedition.

I saw the Northern Lights in Alta, an Arctic city ringed with mountains and bordering the arctic tundra.

After spending a few days in the Arctic, I realized that Oslo really isn't that cold after all!
