Where to Stay in San Francisco (& Where NOT to)

PRACTICAL WANDERLUST

We know where you stay can make or break your travel experience, and we want you to fall in love with San Francisco as much as we have  living here!

UNION SQUARE

Union Square in San Francisco is a convenient place to stay and lovely to visit, but the area is lacking in much of San Francisco’s signature charm. There are plenty of good places to stay here, but this area isn’t one of our top picks.

HAIGHT-ASHBURY

Haight-Ashbury is one of our favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco and one of the best areas to stay in, thanks to its charm, history, central location, and proximity to beautiful Golden Gate Park!

THE CASTRO

The Castro district is a historically LGBTQ+ neighborhood. We definitely recommend both visiting and staying here, but please remember that while you’re there, you are a guest in the queer community, so be respectful.

SOUTH OF MARKET, AKA SOMA

SoMa is a massive neighborhood. On the far eastern side of SoMa, you’ll find Rincon Hill, the Oracle Park, and this cool giant arrow statue.

NORTH BEACH (& CHINATOWN)

Along Broadway, Chinatown turns abruptly into Little Italy and the Transamerica Pyramid pops up around every corner. This neighborhood is called North Beach, and it’s a great area to stay in San Francisco.

HAYES VALLEY

Hayes Valley is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in San Francisco and tops our list of where to stay!
